How to build a Splash page for traffic exchanges
By Aussie Battler
Please read "Contributor's Note" first Building a Splash Page for Traffic Exchanges Before you can use your splash page there are some important things to think about. Some traffic exchanges have 6 and 8 second timers , so if your page takes to long to load then your not getting value from your advertising. The faster a page loads , the more time a viewer has to actually see the content, so what you need is speed , a fast loading Splash Page. I use several sites setting up my page and will cover each in this series. I use this free online site for a good overall performance test . Web Page Analyzer is in the list of links below. The Web Page Speed Report will provide you with these details. Diagnosis Global Statistics Object Size Totals External Objects Download Times* ( The important one ) Page Objects and finally Analysis and Recommendations This will help you correct problems and streamline your splashpage into a lean mean fighting machine , well at the least a splash that loads in a flash :) Note The speedtest is done on high speed connections , so consider your target audience. A couple of the splash pages I am currently using are listed in the links below. They are by no means perfect. I generally like to advertise as much stuff as I can fit on a page , so its a personal choice. According to the webpage analyzer, my load time results are: Main Splash ISDN 128K 5.88 seconds T1 1.44Mbps 1.97 seconds 2nd Splash ISDN 128K 0.41 seconds T1 1.44Mbps 0.22 seconds

It tends to be third-party widgets and adverts that slow pages down. By the way, I'm wondering what kind of conversion rates you get - I've never used a traffic exchange but have heard that people just don't click through.

I agree that widgets and ads will slow your page down ,and conversion rates will depend on appeal of your splash page. I generally only use manual traffic exchanges , I also believe that you wont get much traffic using auto exchanges.
